"Turkey's position in the world must combine with Europe's but that cannot happen unless Turkey decides that it is so", Vice-Chair of the Delegation on EU-Turkey relations Miltiadis Kyrkos stated. For years, Turkey and the EU have cooperated on issues such as trade, migration and NATO.
On December 8th, 2017, M. Kyrkos organised an event called "Psychoactive Substances Use In Greece", focusing on harm reduction policies. The event was supported by S&D and took place in Radisson Blu Park Hotel in Athens. Dialogue between civil society and public bodies was promoted. Policy experts, users, ex-users, civil society, public bodies, streatworks and all related stakeholders were invited to speak and participate.
Parliament wants EU countries to be able to rapidly add these so-called legal highs to their lists of illegal drugs. An early warning system already exists, but MEPs want assessments to be carried out faster so that substances thought to be harmful can be banned. Parliament has already agreed a final version of the proposal with the Council. On Tuesday 24 October MEPs voted on an update of existing legislation.
